These videos and text accounts are from local residents of the US west coast, regarding the recent tsunamis and the damage which they caused:
3.12.11 Brookings, Crescent City, up through Coos Bay Oregon
Looks like the worst is over. The tsunami warning for everywhere except Crescent City and the mouth of the Klamath has been changed to a tsunami advisory. Highway 101 is opening up at 6 tonight, but the CHP wants to keep traffic away from the harbor, which was destroyed. We just had another 8.1 ft surge, no larger than the previous one. However, they want to keep watch just in case we get another surge on the high tide. The commercial boat harbor in Brookings, OR has been destroyed and some boats sunk. The Crescent City harbor is demolished. Boats were washed out to sea or sunk, others are damaged in the harbor. About 20 boats got out and are now at sea with no harbor to go to. The USCG is assisting them to get to a safe harbor by offering fuel at sea. There is a storm predicted to come ashore over the next few days with 20 ft. seas expected. The boats need to get off the open ocean and in a safe harbor before getting caught in the storm.
I’ve heard one confirmed fatality of a man who went to the mouth of the Klamath to take pictures and was washed out to sea. There are more people who were more fortunate when they got washed out to sea as they were rescued alive. I anticipate hearing of at least one and possibly two additional fatalities.
